Examining The Cho Yung Tea Weight Loss Claim

With hundreds of websites claiming the miracle weight loss associated with Cho Yung Tea, it is important to examine the product carefully before buying.

Weight loss remains an elusive dream for many people. A lifestyle that consists of long workdays filled with take-out meals and no exercise are not conducive to a healthy diet or exercise, which translates to excessive weight gain for many. It's not a surprise that products that promise to help burn off this excess fat sell so well, especially when it seems the process will be effortless.

About Cho-Yung Tea

Cho-Yung, a UK based company, markets a herbal tea, Cho-Yung Tea, that helps burn fat by increasing metabolism. The tea contains no chemicals and has an all natural list of ingredients, like oolong tea and lotus leaf. According to the website, the ingredients when combined, "...help purify the body's cells and support the essential organs through the digestive process."

A standard plan, a one-month supply of tea, costs £79.99 (approximately $130) and consists of 60 teabags exclusive of shipping and handling charges.

The four-step process to losing weight requires introduction of gentle exercise, smaller (yet frequent) meals, and healthier food options along with two cups of the tea every day. The website says that the increased exercise and healthier food options along with the increased metabolism from drinking tea will help reduce weight over a sustained period of time.

How Weight Loss Works

The real question to ask is, what does Cho-Yung Tea add to the weight loss process? For this, let's examine how weight loss works on an average person.

According to Melissa Conrad Stoppler, MD, "Our body weight is determined by the amount of energy that we take in as food and the amount of energy we expend in the activities of our day." Simply put, someone eating more calories than their body needs in a day will gain weight, while someone eating less calories will lose weight. Almost every weight loss program is based on this simple formula for weight loss, which works whether the person is losing five pounds or fifty.

While there are many diet plans that will ask users to cut out carbohydrate intake, increase protein, eat certain types of foods at specific times or only eat pre-planned meals, the basic principle remains the same. The only way weight loss happens is when the body builds up a caloric deficit and starts burning a combination of fat and muscle to supply the energy it needs.

Essentially, the first three parts of the Cho-Yung tea four step process are focusing on increasing the amount of calories burnt, while asking the user to eat healthier foods in smaller portions. Something any weight loss plan would advise.

Benefits of Green Tea and a Close Look at Cho-Yung Tea Ingredients

Step four of the plan requires two cups of Cho-Yung tea every day to be consumed so it's important to look at both the benefits of green tea in general, while looking at the ingredients of Cho-Yung tea more closely.

While green tea is not as popular as other teas, or even coffee, the benefits of green tea are multi-fold. According to Abdul G. Dulloo, "Green tea has thermogenic properties and promotes fat oxidation beyond that explained by its caffeine content per se." In simple terms, it boosts the body's metabolism, which means more calories are burnt by the body than normal. While the amount of extra calories a cup of green tea would burn is small, about 60 in most studies, it also has lower caffeine amounts as compared to coffee. Furthermore, hot liquids help the body feel satiated longer.

Looking at all this evidence, it's difficult to deny that green tea does, in fact, increase metabolism and therefore help in weight loss.

Cho-Yung tea is, however, more than just simple green tea. The ingredients, as listed on the website, include Oolong Tea, Lotus Leaf, Hawthorn, Alisma Rhizome, Cassia Seeds, Jiagulan and Poria. Of these, Alisma Rhizome and Poria are used to help people get rid of water weight, while Cassia Seeds and Jiaogulan are used to regulate the digestive system. Combined, these ingredients offer benefits similar to a common laxative, which will help increase bowel movements and flush water from the body but will not result in permanent weight loss.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the question that needs to be answered is not whether drinking Cho-Yung tea will cause weight loss, but whether it will have any extra benefits over another brand of green tea found in the market.

While Cho Yung tea is an all-natural tea that will result in an increase in metabolism, evidence suggests this is a benefit that can be gained from drinking any all-natural green tea on the market. Cho-Yung tea will also regulate bowel movements and reduce water retention, but neither of these help with permanent weight loss. While the product is well put together, and brings together a number of all-natural ingredients, it remains up to the user to decide whether it is worth it to pay $130 for a two month supply of a product that offers the same basic benefits as a $49.92 Oolong Tea available in an online grocery store.

at last!!! a level-headed, honest and common sense answer after trawling through the (many) adverts. Thank you, at least I now know that the product may be worth trying if I can find an honest and reliable outlet in this country.

"With potential of being a breakthrough product in the weight-loss genre" - it's nothing of the sort!! You can buy the same tea they charge you £59 for in a supermarket for £2.

Yes its too bad that the marketing companies for some products are corrupting the good name of a lot of products. I ordered Dazzle White teeth whitening product for supposedly only the shipping charges, which were over-inflated, and after almost $200 of unknown charges on my visa, I finally had to cancel my visa card and order a new one.
I would always investigate on the web now before ordering to see if the marketing companies are scamming. It seems like most Cho Yung Tea sites are scams. I'll just head down to my local tea shop and find it on my own.

It is also worth noting that the people behind this are "gaming" the search engines so that a google for cho yung tea generates a couple of pages of planted positive websites before anything remotely negative appears. One particular web page advert for the product which is linked on the guardian web site is constructed to look like it is part of a reputable newspaper but it is fake. Practices like this are usually a good sign that the product suppliers are not to be trusted.

Totally Agree. Avoid like the plague!!! After ordering the "Free Trial" my account was debited £59.00 twice by this company/ other health companies, I now have a fight on my hand with the bank as they are refusing to register it as fraud as i willingly gave my credit card info. they advised me to cancel my credit card, and close the account to be sure there are no future DD out of it, that card was registered to Pay Pal, ebay and all other online stores, so a lot of hassle involved for me, and the bank cant confirm if they will replenish the money for me or not, No Such Thing as a Free!!

The issue with the scam is completely true. I have had this happen to me with Cho Yung (UK) Ltd and PROcleanse Gold. I signed up for the 14 day trial (which i never received) they have since taken more money out of my bank and i am still yet to receive a simgle product. It's a total of £130 now and both companies have said they will refund the money but it hasn't appeared. The telephone numbers provided do not work - they ring out no matter which option you press. I've emailed and no one ever replies. Do not take up the free offer or the 14 day trial, they are both a scam!

Well, I wish there was a source that sold the Tea with no free-trial or controversy regarding credit card fraud..... Anyone know where we can find this product or a similar tea including some of the antioxidants listed in Cho Yung???

To the last comment read by the "Cho Yung Tea CSR":

Are you then denying the claims of hundreds of people who have had to pay for the "14 Day Free Trial" after they 14 days have passed, or those who have been trying for months to get their money back because the product does not work?
Jun 27, 2010 10:58 PM
Guest :
@ NIda Rasheed - If at all anyone has followed the terms and conditions mentioned in the trial pack, their money will be duly returned. Any kind of non compliance with the terms and conditions is not the fault of the company. You can see the terms and conditions here.

I very, very much doubt there are any benefits to Cho Yung Tea that can't be found in green tea alone.

My advice: buy green tea from any tea outlet (Whittards is nice) and avoid being scammed.

i was seriously considering trying the free trial for both the tea and procleanse, however after reading all these comments i will not be ordering the products!!! i can not believe that they are scamming people.

I also ordered a free trial of a teeth whitening product for the cost of the shipping. I received this ok, but then on my next credit card statement noticed that I had two $146 charges on my card charged by a totally different company. So yes, they scammed my credit card but I was lucky the bank refunded the payments, but I had to cancel my card. So be careful out there!

If you really want to use cho yung tea, then check the website of Holland and Barrett. The tea is sold there with no 14 days trial. They have good deals on sale.

The medicinal qualities of green tea have been known for many hundreds of years. Unscrupulous companies have jumped on the bandwagon, and have rebranded green tea as a miracle weight-loss cure. It isn't. Green tea merely acts as an agent to help your body better digest and burn the food that you eat. If you have an eating disorder, or do not exercise properly or regularly, green tea (nor any other food stuff) is going to assist you. As for the "cleansing" agent, why not simply drink pure apple juice as part of your calorie-controlled diet?

What I find reprehensible about these scammers is not so much that they charge ridiculous sums of money for a product that can be bought far more cheaply in ordinary supermarkets, but it's the way that the distort the information they provide to consumers. Not enough space is given in their advertising campaigns to the real cause of weight-loss, namely a proper diet and regular exercise. The consumption of green tea is merely a very small part of that overall strategy, but the advertising gives the consumer the impression that it is the major component.

It is this kind of advertising that proves that our Trading Standards laws are a toothless tiger.

There is only one way to lose weight and that is to consume less calories than you burn off. It's not difficult, you don't need expensive nonsense tea - just willpower and hard work!

I too took the so-called free 14-day trial for cho-yung tea and the pro-cleanse gold pills. I then received, unwanted, a month's supply of each , debited from my bank to the tune of £129! I contacted them immediately on he phone numbers against the debits on my bank statement, got through OK, and cancelled any further orders and asking them for a refund. I sent the unwanted goods back registered post, but since then - I have heard no more. Got my latest bank statement today to find that they have debited a further £139.48 (for nothing) from my account- that is £268.48 for 2 bags of tea bags and 2 jars of pills. Two days after this there was a piece about Cho-yung etc on BBC Radio 4 who also said this was a scam. Strangely, when I phoned them again today to ask where my refunds are, and to stop this happening again the phone was put down (automatically) each time. I have had no reply from my emails either. My bank is now taking it up with the fraud dept. This is nothing short of blatant theft and should be stopped now.

I have used this product, can't see that I have lost weight (well it's only been a week or so) but I do seem to be going to the loo alot. I must admit it does make you feel better and my tummy is not as bloated as it used to be.
I did order the free trail, but I read somewhere that someone got ripped off so I called them just in time to cancel it and (touch wood) they have not taken anything out of my account apart from the £2.50 for postage.
I want to know if anyone has tried this product for over a month and lost any weight, I go to the gym at least 4/5 times a week and eat really healthy, I suppose it take at least a month to kick in.
But if anyone has tried it please let me know

I too fell victim to both the scam for pro cleance and cho yung. Cho yung I managed to get hold of on their online chat facility and I emailed procleanse gold and they did get back to me thankfully but only aftre paying the months subscription. I have little sympathy for myself as I should have read all the terms and conditions thoroughly before signing up as on my part they tachnically didnt do anything wrong. It wasnt until a month later and the money had gone out of my account that I realised anything was wrong and by then it was too late. Nothing has come out of my account so far and I did recieve confirmation cancellation emails so will persue this further if anymore money comes out of my account.
Am trying at the tea now as it is the most expensive tea I have ever bought and thought it must be worth a go. Will let you know how I get one.

please, if you want this very same product order it from Holland and Barrett online at their website. I almost ordered it from Cho- yung itself but had 2nd thoughts........THANK GOD!!! The price from Hollond and Barrett is £39.99 for 30 t - bags and they are the exact same ones you would get from the other place. I recieved mine this morning and only ordered them on tuesday!!! I didnt have the proper debit card to order from the other place as they do not accept Maestro so would have used my partners card. Im so, so glad I had bad vibes and changed my mind, or my partner might be having loads of probs with them taking money off his card!

You can find green tea on the Wing Yip website. Wing Yip are an old established company from Manchester [UK]and have an excellent website. £1.39 for 25 tea bags.
The Cho Yung thing is such an obvious scam, their 'correspondents' provide detailed diaries of weight loss and if you do a bit of Googling you will see that the same corrrespondents and 'journalists' are achieving the same levels of weight loss with other natural products . One poor girl seems to have lost more than her own total bodyweight in the past 12 weeks!
It's only green tea....it's really good for you but don't pay 90p per tea bag for it...

cho-yung tea and the pro-cleanse gold pills are scam. you signed up for $4.95 local currency for a shipping. then after 14 or 28 days, they will automatically charge you £129. They are very cunning. When you ring up the customer service, they wont be able to find your details. I strongly suspect they have stolen the customer care phone numbers and emails from legimate company. So please do not sign up any name under pro-cleanse gold pills or cho-yung tea on internet...

I stumbled across a blog that advertised cho-yung tea & pro cleanse gold, I book marked the page on my safari so I could easily get back to the page, on this "Emily Martin's" blog page, it had a little comment box where you could comment, so I commented & she never got back to me via email or on her blog, but I noticed that the comments that was already left on her blog would change date to make it look like they was recent comments, which made me think thats odd, I had already ordered my tea & cleanse though, but a few days later I clicked back on her page & the link changed from cho-yung tea to acai berry, I was very confused & then realized it was a scam, I haven't opened my bottle of cleanse or my bag of tea bags & Im not going to either I'm going to send it back on monday, Im very sad & disappointed with this, its upsetting that such a large company are doing this, you'd think someone with authority would crack on to it!
